Zelensky Alleges Chinese Arms Supplies to Russia Amid Tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that he possessed «information» indicating that China is supplying weapons to Russia, amid growing tensions between Kyiv and Beijing regarding China’s backing of Moscow.

Last Wednesday, Zelensky stated that Ukraine was aware of at least 155 Chinese citizens currently assisting Russia in its invasion, following claims that Ukrainian forces had apprehended two Chinese soldiers in the eastern Donetsk region.

«We have received confirmation that China is indeed providing military equipment to the Russian Federation,» Zelensky told reporters during a press conference in Kyiv.

He also mentioned, «We believe that Chinese officials are involved in the manufacturing of certain weapons on Russian soil.»

Zelensky did not provide further details regarding his allegations, simply noting that Kyiv was «prepared» to discuss the matter in greater depth.

China has presented itself as a neutral entity in the ongoing three-year conflict, despite criticism from Western nations, which argue that its close relationship with Russia has afforded Moscow significant economic and diplomatic assistance.

In response to Ukraine’s allegations last week, Beijing urged all parties involved in the conflict to avoid making «irresponsible statements.»
