Yandex Reveals Child Safety Report Highlighting Protective Measures Across Its Services

The company Yandex has released a report regarding the safety of children on its platforms. In the report, the company outlined its strategies to protect children from harmful content, utilizing children’s accounts on Yandex ID and neural networks.

Children’s accounts automatically activate a family mode, which filters content across Yandex’s services such as Search, Browser, Kinopoisk, and Music. By 2024, the number of children’s accounts reached 1.7 million, representing a 50% increase from the previous year. Family mode is enabled for 2.1 million users.

In the report, the company stated:

«Yandex» employs computer vision technology and language models to guard against inappropriate content. The Search feature avoids displaying unsuitable material in 99.9% of instances;

In Kinopoisk, age-appropriate films and cartoons are recommended for kids, and parents can set up individual profiles and establish a PIN code. Children’s content is viewed by 35% of the service’s audience;

In Music, both neural networks and human reviewers assess content. Songs and podcasts intended for adults are marked with a «!» symbol, preventing them from being played on children’s accounts. From April 2024 to March 2025, a total of 76,967 tracks and podcasts were labeled in this manner;

Yandex has developed an «Internet Safety» course aimed at students in grades 1 to 4, focusing on online fraud and dangers. This course has been completed by 5,000 users;

Yandex Tutoring and Yandex Browser have created an online safety quest for students in grades 7 to 9, with over 6,000 schoolchildren participating;

In Yandex Taxi, only drivers with at least three years of experience are permitted to transport children, and they have the option for additional training;

Yandex Go prohibits individuals under 18 from renting scooters. This restriction was applied to 22,000 accounts in 2024.
