Verstappen Addresses Towel Incident During Hungarian GP Practice Session

The four-time reigning world champion, Max Verstappen from Red Bull, addressed the towel incident during the second practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

«During the session, I had a towel in my car that is used to wipe the face before heading out on track. Instead of letting it fly between my legs—which could have been hazardous—I steered off the racing line and disposed of it in the safest manner possible,» Verstappen stated, as reported by the team’s official website.

As a reminder, Verstappen finished the second practice session in 14th place.

Verstappen received only a warning for this incident. It has been reported that the stewards deemed the occurrence could be interpreted as an unsafe release of the driver onto the track; however, they concluded that a towel is too soft to pose a genuine risk.
