Upset in Madrid: Ostapenko Falls to Sevastova in Shocking First Round Exit

The 2017 French Open champion and 18th-ranked Latvian tennis player, **[Elena Ostapenko](link)**, faced a surprising defeat in her opening match at the WTA 1000 clay tournament in Madrid, Spain.

In the second round, Ostapenko (23) lost to her fellow Latvian, 35-year-old **Anastasia Sevastova**, with a score of 6-7 (2-7), 2-6, despite Sevastova being ranked 666th in the world.

The match lasted 1 hour and 32 minutes, during which Ostapenko served two aces, committed eight double faults, and converted five out of seven break points. Sevastova logged four aces, made four double faults, and successfully converted 7 out of 13 break points.

It’s worth mentioning that just last week, Ostapenko claimed the title at a tournament in Stuttgart, defeating the world number one, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, in the final.
