Unleashing the Sticker Monster: A Look at FBC: Firebreak and Its L4D Comparisons

Remedy Entertainment, known for delivering remarkable single-player titles like Max Payne, Control, and Alan Wake II, has taken an unexpected leap into the multiplayer realm with FBC: Firebreak. Journalists recently had the opportunity to preview the latest gameplay for this upcoming cooperative shooter. Let’s explore what Remedy has in store for us now.

The events of FBC: Firebreak unfold six years after Control.

Following the conclusion of the original game, the Oldest House remains sealed off to prevent the Aesir (a parasitic enemy from another reality) from escaping. However, this also confines the remaining employees of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) who have been striving to survive in an extremely hostile environment. The situation escalates—their supplies are dwindling, and resistance is becoming unfeasible. In this dire circumstance, Jessie, the director of the FBC and protagonist of Control, initiates the Firebreak initiative—a team of volunteers ready to venture into the most perilous areas of the Oldest House to either find an escape route or at least slow the Bureau’s decay. Among the Firebreak fighters are guards, scientists, managers, and even postal workers.

In the demonstration, each player could choose from three Crisis Kits—special sets equipped with unique tools and items, in addition to their primary weapons. Here’s a closer look at these kits:

Jump Kit (electrical attacks and battlefield control):

Fix Kit (repair capabilities and turrets):

Splash Kit (water effects, healing, and debuffs):

Players have the ability to swap kits during missions and can maintain up to three presets.

FBC: Firebreak appears to be an exciting genre experiment for Remedy. This isn’t an attempt to please the mainstream market; rather, it’s a project that retains the studio’s identity while adapting it to a team-oriented format. The release is set for summer 2025, targeting PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The game will also be available through Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium subscriptions.
