Ukrainian Missile Strike Claims Life of 64-Year-Old Man at Kursk Recreational Center

A 64-year-old man lost his life and five others were injured due to a missile strike by Ukraine on a leisure facility in the Kursk region of southwestern Russia, authorities reported on Monday.

Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of Kursk, shared videos and images of a burning structure in the village of Prigorodnaya Slobodka, which is located approximately 75 kilometers (46 miles) north of the Sumy region in Ukraine.

In a video posted on his Telegram channel, Khinshtein stated, «One civilian died near a burning car.»

He also mentioned that two women were taken to the hospital with concussions, while three men — the maintenance chief of the recreational center and two security personnel — suffered from shrapnel injuries and fractures.

Khinshtein indicated that the missile hit caused significant damage to the building’s roof, facade, and windows. Firefighters were actively battling a fire that had spread over an area of 400 square meters (4,300 square feet).

Civilians living near the borders of Russia and Ukraine have been frequently affected by drone and artillery strikes since President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Authorities report that at least 621 Russian civilians have died due to Ukrainian attacks within Russia and the annexed Crimea since February 2022.

In contrast, the United Nations has estimated that more than 13,100 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since Putin ordered military action across the border over three years ago.
