Ukrainian Drone Strikes Ignite Fires and Halt Traffic in Russias Kursk and Voronezh Regions

Ukrainian drone strikes during the night on the Kursk and Voronezh regions resulted in fires in residential areas and disrupted traffic on a key highway, local authorities reported early Monday.

According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, a total of 162 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight, with 57 of these being shot down over the Kursk region.

Acting Governor of Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein, noted that debris from the downed drones ignited fires in multiple homes and caused damage to private residences.

In the Voronezh region, where Russian air defenses reportedly took down 16 Ukrainian drones, Governor Alexander Gusev mentioned that falling drone wreckage brought down power lines that landed on the M-4 highway.

Gusev indicated that a small portion of the roadway, which connects Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, and Krasnodar, was temporarily closed. He also mentioned that falling debris caused damage to the exteriors of several homes.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries in either region.

These attacks occur as Russian and Ukrainian officials prepare for a second round of peace negotiations in Istanbul.
