U.S. to Assess Russias Peace Conditions as Rubio Emphasizes Long Road Ahead

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Wednesday that the United States will review the conditions proposed by Russia for agreements with Ukraine, but he warned that achieving a peace agreement will require time.

«It won’t be easy. It will take some time, but at least we are moving in that direction and discussing these issues,» Rubio remarked during a press conference in Jamaica.

In parallel negotiations with U.S. representatives in Saudi Arabia, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to cease strikes in the Black Sea, while President Donald Trump advocates for an end to the conflict.

The Kremlin noted on Wednesday that the renewal of an agreement regarding Black Sea shipping hinges on «a number of conditions» and that Russia is in talks regarding the easing of sanctions imposed by the United States.

«We will evaluate those conditions. Some of them involve sanctions that we do not control; they are imposed by the European Union,» Rubio explained.

He mentioned that U.S. negotiators would convene, and «then we will relay that to the president, who will ultimately decide the next course of action.»

«I believe it is positive that both Ukrainians and Russians are discussing ceasefires, whether related to energy or possibly in the Black Sea,» Rubio added.

Previously, Rubio urged Russia to accept a proposed 30-day general ceasefire agreed upon by Ukraine without any preconditions.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated the appeal for Russia to accept this without conditions and emphasized that it is «far too early» to consider lifting sanctions.
