Tragic Grenade Incident Claims Four Lives in Tula Region

At least four individuals lost their lives in a grenade blast that occurred overnight in the Tula region, located south of Moscow, as reported by law enforcement officials on early Wednesday.

The regional office of Russia’s Investigative Committee, tasked with examining serious crimes, announced that it had initiated a criminal inquiry into the tragic event in the town of Kurkino, approximately 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of the capital.

The Telegram channel Astra, referencing a data leak, revealed the identity of one of the deceased as 32-year-old soldier Alexei Kurvyakov.

Reports indicate that Kurvyakov had a significant criminal history, including charges of extortion, aggravated assault, and theft among other crimes.

According to Astra, during a night of drinking with three friends, Kurvyakov triggered a grenade he had brought back from the conflict in Ukraine.

The outlet named two of his acquaintances as Andrei and his son, Savely. Local residents informed Astra that three people were killed instantly in the explosion, while Savely succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

Another Telegram publication, Ostorozhno Novosti, citing its own sources, reported that the explosion was linked to a dispute concerning Savely’s purported drug use.

It was reported that Kurvyakov had been released from prison to participate in Russia’s military actions in Ukraine and had returned to the Tula area shortly before the incident occurred.

The Moscow Times has not been able to independently verify this information.
