Tragic Blaze at Moscow Apartment Building Claims Three Lives

Three individuals lost their lives following a blast that devastated an apartment complex in Moscow and ignited a fire, according to state media reports early Monday, which cited police sources.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry indicated that emergency responders reached the site of the explosion in the Yasenevo district of southwestern Moscow on Sunday evening. Firefighters took approximately an hour to extinguish the flames, which led to the partial collapse of the ninth floor of the building.

At least two bodies were located on a balcony, as reported by the ministry, and six others received medical treatment for their injuries. Approximately 150 residents were relocated to a nearby school for safety.

An unidentifed police source informed the state-operated RIA Novosti news agency that the number of fatalities had risen to three by Monday morning, although there was no official confirmation regarding the third death.

Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Authorities have initiated a criminal probe into the explosion, but they have not disclosed whether any charges have been filed.
