Tether CEO Forecasts a Trillion AI Agents Integrating with Bitcoin and Brain-Computer Interfaces

Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, has stated that in the next 15 years, we can expect to see a trillion AI agents utilizing Bitcoin and USDT for transactions and payments.

«I believe that in the future, each AI agent will have its own wallet, and it should be a non-custodial product. In 15 years, we will have one trillion agents,» the executive explained.

AI agents are autonomous programs able to interact with other machines without human intervention. Some experts believe they will be fundamental to the future digital economy built on blockchain technology.

«I don’t think JPMorgan will open a bank account for any AI agent. Therefore, they will rely on stablecoins and Bitcoin for their transactions,» Ardoino highlighted.

In May, Coinbase introduced x402, an online payment tool designed to transfer «stable coins» using standard internet protocols, enabling AI agents to conduct transactions autonomously.

In May 2024, Tether acquired a controlling stake in Blackrock Neurotech, a brain-computer interface (BCI) manufacturer, for $200 million.

Ardoino has high hopes for this project, claiming it has already surpassed Neuralink, the neurotechnology company founded by Elon Musk, which focuses on developing brain interfaces.

Patients using Blackrock Neurotech’s technology have been able to control robotic arms, wheelchairs, send messages, browse the web, and even drive cars, all through the power of thought, as noted by Tether when announcing the investment.

«They already have more than 40 patients. The next iteration of the brain chip is just insane,» Ardoino remarked.

He expressed his ambition to create an «open-source brain operating system.»

«I believe in the future, within 15 to 30 years, it will become the next smartphone. Perhaps we still have time to develop an open-source technology. If I need to install a system for myself, I don’t want to be under the control of any tech corporation. I’m a bit paranoid, so I just want to ensure that everyone is on equal footing,» emphasized the CEO of Tether.

The head of the USDT issuer also indicated that the company could become the largest Bitcoin miner by the end of 2025.

He emphasized that the company’s aim is not profit generation but the protection of its assets. Tether owns over 100,000 BTC and plans to contribute to network security to protect its investments.

Tether is actively diversifying its business: it is engaging in Bitcoin mining, investing in crypto projects, including enterprises holding reserves in digital gold.

It’s worth mentioning that in May, Ardoino announced the launch of Tether AI, a personal artificial intelligence accessible to everyone.
