Swedish Minister of Finance Urged to Explore Bitcoin as a National Reserve Asset

Swedish parliamentarian Rickard Nordin released an open letter urging Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson to consider adopting Bitcoin as a national reserve asset.

“In Sweden, there exists a tradition of maintaining a conservative and meticulously managed currency reserve primarily composed of foreign currencies and gold. At the same time, there is a rapid evolution of digital assets, with several international players viewing Bitcoin as a means of saving and a hedge against inflation,” Nordin stated.

He emphasized that the original cryptocurrency is “a crucial tool for freedom fighters to carry out transactions while under the oppression of authoritarian regimes.”

The MP also pointed out that Bitcoin’s monetary properties are comparable to gold, especially during times of increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

As a means of accumulating digital assets, Nordin suggested that the government avoid selling coins confiscated by the police and customs:

«This way, the U.S. has managed to accumulate a substantial amount without allocating budgetary funds or purchasing cryptocurrency itself.»

It is noteworthy that on March 6, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve.

However, in Congress, there have been calls to halt this initiative. Recently, a bill emerged that could protect Trump’s plan from being canceled.
