St. Petersburg Woman Detained for Alleged Bomb Plot Against Drone Company Employee

A court in St. Petersburg has placed a 24-year-old woman into pre-trial detention on charges of terrorism linked to an alleged plot to assassinate an employee of a Russian drone manufacturing firm.

The unnamed woman was apprehended by Federal Security Service (FSB) agents last Thursday, as indicated by a statement from the St. Petersburg judicial authorities.

She is accused of attempting to place an explosive device beneath the vehicle of a department head at a company that has not been identified. Officials reported that she could not successfully plant the device “due to uncontrollable circumstances” and subsequently left the area.

State-run news agency RIA Novosti, citing an unnamed law enforcement official, mentioned that the targeted individual worked for an IT firm engaged in drone technology development.

According to the source, the woman has reportedly confessed to her charges.

The Primorsky District Court in St. Petersburg has ordered her to remain in custody until August 18 while she awaits trial on charges related to attempted terrorism and illegal possession of explosives.

Local media outlet Fontanka noted that the court hearing occurred last Friday. The woman, who was reportedly born in Moscow, might have recently changed her name and had been residing in St. Petersburg for at least a year.
