Spanish Football Federation Refuses Real Madrids Request to Change Referees for Copa del Rey Final

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that there will be no possibility of changing the referees for the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid scheduled for April 26, despite the requests made by the «White» team.

«There are no grounds for this, regardless of what Real Madrid may think,» said an RFEF representative, as reported by Cadena Ser.

Earlier, Real Madrid’s club television criticized the performance of Ricardo De Burgos Bengoechea, who has been appointed as the main referee for the match against the blue and burgundy team. During a pre-match press conference, Bengoechea struggled to hold back tears when addressed about the criticism. VAR referee Gonzalez Fuertes mentioned that there could be serious consequences regarding the comments made on Real’s TV.

Reports indicated that Real Madrid had reached out to the RFEF, requesting the referees to be suspended for their statements during the press conference; however, RFEF denied the Spanish giant’s request. As a form of protest, Real Madrid opted not to attend any official events leading up to the match with Barcelona, including the press conference.
