Solo Miner Strikes Gold with Bitcoin Block Amid Decline of Industry Giants

On July 4th, a solo miner successfully mined block #903,883 in the Bitcoin network, earning a reward of 3.173 BTC, which amounts to approximately $348,948.

The miner utilized the CKpool platform and operated equipment with a hashing power of 2.3 PH/s. CKPool’s administrator, Con Kolivas, congratulated the miner and noted that the odds of such an occurrence are roughly 1 in 2800 per day.

Typically, a miner with this level of power can expect to find a block once every eight years.

This achievement comes at a time when major publicly traded companies are experiencing a decline in production. Riot Platforms, Cipher Mining, and MARA Holdings reported reductions in their output for June, largely due to strategic reductions in operations in Texas amidst soaring electricity costs during the summer months.

Riot Platforms announced the mining of 450 BTC, reflecting a 12% decrease from the previous month. MARA Holdings reported a more significant decline of 25%, with a production total of 211 BTC, attributing this drop to weather conditions and the temporary use of older equipment.

Cipher Mining reported a total of 160 BTC mined, crediting this outcome to a proactive strategy aimed at avoiding peak rates.

In contrast to the trend, CleanSpark increased its Bitcoin production by 6.7% to a total of 445 BTC, also reaching its hashing goal of 20 EH/s.

It’s worth noting that on March 10, a solo miner mined block #887,212 and earned approximately $250,000 with an investment of $299 in hardware.

On June 5, another solo miner received $330,386 for confirming a Bitcoin block.
