Sergey Brin Advocates for RTO as Googles Secret Weapon in the AGI Race

Co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin, sent a memo to employees this week urging them to return to the office «at least every weekday» to assist the company in the race for AGI, as reported by The New York Times. Brin mentioned that working 60 hours a week represents a «sweet spot» for productivity.

While Brin’s memo does not officially alter Google’s policy that employees must work in-person three days a week, it highlights the pressure Silicon Valley giants face to compete in the AI sector. The memo also suggests that Brin believes Google has the potential to develop AGI, an advanced AI system comparable to human intelligence.

Reports indicate that Brin has recently «returned to Google» to help the company regain its footing in the AI competition. Google was caught off guard by the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022, but has been working diligently to catch up with industry-leading proprietary AI models.
