Russian Diplomat Emphasizes Importance of U.S.-Ukraine Talks and Seeks UN Involvement

Russia is set to continue discussions with the United States regarding the conflict in Ukraine and aims to bring the United Nations and other nations into the dialogue, stated Russian negotiator Grigory Karasin on Tuesday.

«We covered a wide range of topics — it was a thorough and challenging conversation, but ultimately quite beneficial for both us and the Americans,» Karasin conveyed to the state-operated TASS news agency, noting that «numerous issues were explored.»

«Undoubtedly, we have not resolved everything or achieved consensus on all matters, but this style of dialogue appears to be very appropriate at this juncture,» he added.

Karasin, who is a senator in Russia’s upper house Federation Council, emphasized that Moscow would advocate for the expansion of discussions to include a broader international audience, particularly the United Nations and select countries, though he refrained from offering additional specifics.

His remarks followed a lengthy 12-hour discussion between U.S. and Russian negotiators at a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia.

U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for a prompt end to the war in Ukraine and is hopeful that the recent talks in Riyadh will result in significant progress.

Earlier reports from TASS indicated that a joint statement regarding the discussions was anticipated on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Ukraine’s delegation extended its stay in Riyadh for an extra day to hold talks with U.S. representatives, as confirmed by a team member to the Ukrainian outlet Suspilne. Another source informed AFP that a further meeting is likely.
