Russia Claims First Victory in Dnipropetrovsk as Tensions Escalate

On Monday, Russian military officials announced that they have seized their first village in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region, following months of gradual territorial advances toward the border. This development may serve as a psychological setback for Kyiv, particularly as it faces growing military and diplomatic pressures.

This statement was made shortly after Moscow initiated a large-scale attack involving drones and missiles, which included assaults on Ukrainian military recruitment centers. These strikes are part of an intensifying campaign amid stalled ceasefire negotiations.

According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, Moscow’s forces gained control of the village of Dachne, a significant industrial and mining area that has experienced heightened aerial bombardment from Russia in recent weeks.

In recent months, Russian forces have prioritized entering this region, and any further progress could pose logistical and economic challenges for Ukraine.

In response, Kyiv has rejected the claim that Russian troops have established a presence in Dnipropetrovsk. On Monday, Ukrainian military representatives stated that their forces successfully repelled Russian assaults in the area, including near Dachne.

Russia had initially asserted in May that its troops had penetrated Dnipropetrovsk, more than three years after the launch of its comprehensive invasion.

It is worth noting that Dnipropetrovsk is not one of the five Ukrainian regions claimed by Moscow as part of its territory.
