Russell Reflects on Mistake That Cost Him a Higher Qualifying Position

Mercedes driver **[George Russell](link)** commented on his fourth-place finish in the qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

«It’s always disappointing to be so close to pole position and not be able to secure it. However, I would have taken being just 0.05 seconds off the top time before the weekend began.

Pole was definitely within reach. I made a mistake that cost me a tenth of a second. Without that, I would have started further up the grid. My second quick lap in the final part also wasn’t perfect. We could have achieved more today.

We witnessed how much of an impact temperature and weather changes can have. This will likely play a significant role in tomorrow’s race as well. It’s encouraging to see that we’ve made progress following the adjustments we’ve made here. Tomorrow, we have a chance to compete for a top-3 finish,” Russell’s words were quoted by the Mercedes press service.
