Reims Poised to Step In if Lyons Appeal for Relegation Fails

If Lyon’s appeal against relegation to Ligue 2 is unsuccessful, Reims could take their place in the French championship next season.

According to Article 520 of the LFP Sports Regulations, if a club that qualifies for the next Ligue 1 season withdraws from participation, no longer meets the eligibility criteria, or is denied participation by the DNCG or any other disciplinary body, the team that lost in the playoff matches is chosen to take its place, provided that it itself has not faced any penalties.

Reims was defeated by Metz in the playoffs for the right to compete in Ligue 1 for the 2025/2026 season.
