Pro-Russian Hackers Launch DDoS Assault on Dutch Government Websites in Retaliation for Military Support to Ukraine

A group of pro-Russian hackers launched coordinated attacks on various Dutch municipal and provincial websites on Monday as a response to the military aid the Netherlands has provided to Ukraine.

Reports indicate that at least 19 websites were impacted by these distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, which inundate online platforms with excessive requests to make them inoperable, according to the Algemeen Dabbled newspaper.

The hacking collective known as NoName, which has previously claimed responsibility for DDoS assaults across Europe, the U.S., and Ukraine, said they targeted the Netherlands due to its substantial military support of 6 billion euros to Ukraine.

«It’s time to pay another visit to the Netherlands and remind you of the consequences of supporting the Kyiv regime,» NoName posted on Telegram on Monday.

Experts in cybersecurity note that the hackers from NoName typically target between five and 15 websites each day to maximize the effect of their DDoS attacks. While these attacks irritate users, they generally do not lead to data theft or compromise essential infrastructure, as reported by NL Times.

Over the past year, NoName has also targeted local government websites in Switzerland and France.

Last week, the Dutch military intelligence service disclosed that Russian hackers had attacked an undisclosed public facility in the Netherlands last year, marking the first recorded cyber incident affecting its infrastructure.
