The team behind the Polygon network has launched a protocol upgrade known as Madhugiri. This update aims to boost the blockchain’s throughput by 33% and reduce block consensus time to just one second.

According to leading developer Krishang Shah, the hard fork incorporates support for three Ethereum Improvement Proposals: 7823, 7825, and 7883.

These modifications enhance the efficiency and security of complex mathematical operations by limiting gas consumption. The mechanism prevents computational power overload caused by individual «heavy» transactions.

The upgrade introduces a new operation type for the bridge connecting Ethereum and Polygon. The network architecture has become more adaptable for future enhancements. Shah noted that blocks can now be announced in one second rather than two.

Additionally, Madhugiri strengthens the infrastructure for working with stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets.

Aishwarya Gupta, head of the payment division at Polygon Labs, believes these enhancements are essential for high-frequency operations. In an interview with The Fintech Times, he predicted a «super cycle of stablecoins.»

In November, Gupta forecasted the emergence of 100,000 stablecoins by 2029.

In July, Polygon deployed the Heimdall 2.0 hard fork, which reduced transaction finalization time. In September, the network experienced operational disruptions, but the issue was promptly resolved with a subsequent update.

To recall, in October, the Polygon Labs team activated the Rio upgrade, which boosted the main network’s performance to 5,000 TPS.
