PlayStation Productions Considers Bringing Astro Bot to the Big Screen

In a recent article, the publication Variety engaged with key players involved in video game adaptations and explored their significance within the interactive entertainment sector. One of the interviewees included

the head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, who mentioned a new potential adaptation.

According to him, following the tremendous success of Astro Bot, PlayStation Productions eagerly began to consider converting the platformer into another media format. As Qizilbash explained, a game’s increasing audience and award wins are early indicators that a project may be suitable for film or television adaptation. Nonetheless, critical acclaim is not always the primary focus. A franchise might simply have a wealth of compelling stories that someone might wish to adapt.

Currently, the company is working on at least ten projects at various stages of production. For instance, the second season of The Last of Us is set to be released soon, Amazon is developing a series based on God of War, and the adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn has shifted from a series format to a feature film. According to Qizilbash, when PS Productions collaborated with Netflix, the creative direction for the Horizon show «did not quite align with what Sony had envisioned.»
