Parents Gain Enhanced Control Over Childs Roblox Experience with New Blocking Features

Roblox is introducing new parental control features that will provide adults with enhanced tools to monitor their children’s interactions and access on the platform. This announcement was made by Matt Kaufman, Roblox’s Security Director.

In 2024, Roblox creators implemented a specific account type that enables parents and guardians to oversee their children’s activities on the platform. To utilize these controls, adults need to create their own Roblox account and link it to their child’s account.

The platform is also rolling out three additional parental control features. Parents can now view their child’s friends list and block any individuals from it. They can also report users they believe are violating Roblox’s rules. A blocked user can be unblocked by an adult in the «Parental Control» section. Children under 13 are unable to unblock anyone their parents have blocked, but they can send a request to their parent or guardian to do so.

Previously, Roblox introduced a feature for parents to set content maturity levels for their kids. This option allows them to control the level of adult-themed content a child can encounter while playing, such as blood, violence, and crude humor. Now, Roblox is enabling parents to restrict access to specific features and games. In the «Content Restrictions» section of the parental controls, there is an area called «Blocked Actions» where specific actions can be searched for and selected for blocking. The process for unblocking actions mirrors that of unblocking friends.

With these updates, parents will have the ability to track how much time their child spends on-screen and set limits accordingly. Adults will gain more insights into their child’s activities within Roblox.

Roblox developers have emphasized their commitment to regularly updating tools, guidelines, and systems to ensure the highest level of safety for children on the gaming platform.

Additionally, Roblox Company has announced that it is launching a new type of advertising within Roblox that will reward users with in-game currency and bonuses for viewing ads. These advertisements will only be shown to players aged 13 and older.
