Overnight Russian Attacks Leave More than 30 Wounded in Ukraine Amid Landmark Minerals Deal

Russian attacks left over 30 individuals injured in Ukraine overnight, according to officials on Friday, following a significant minerals agreement signed between Kyiv and Washington.

Ukraine anticipates that this agreement will facilitate security assurances from the U.S. to the nation, which has been engaged in a conflict with Russia for more than three years.

«Twenty-nine individuals sustained injuries due to a nighttime assault by the enemy» on the industrial city of Zaporizhzhia, regional governor Ivan Fedorov stated on Telegram, noting that a 13-year-old boy was among the casualties of the drone strike.

“The Russians targeted the city’s civilian infrastructure, causing damage to residential buildings, a university, and other facilities,” Fedorov added.

Additionally, two men were injured in a separate Russian drone strike in the Dnipropetrovsk region, with blazes igniting in two areas, as reported by Governor Sergiy Lysak on Telegram.

Ukraine’s national railway firm indicated that its locomotive repair facility in Zaporizhzhia was «hit by a substantial attack» overnight, leading to a fire that lasted for several hours. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this incident.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones overnight, mostly over Crimea, the peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014.

This recent wave of strikes occurred after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remarked that the minerals agreement with the U.S. provided «equal» advantages for both parties, despite the absence of explicit security guarantees for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader urged his nation’s allies to increase «pressure on Russia to compel it to cease hostilities and engage in negotiations.»
