Nintendo Stream Flooded with Calls to Lower the Price Amid Switch 2 Controversy

Yesterday, Nintendo held a live broadcast of Nintendo Treehouse: Live — Nintendo Switch 2, during which the company showcased gameplay for eight games on the new console. Fans, disappointed with the price of the Switch 2 and its games, took to the stream’s chat to express their concerns.

According to various media outlets, at certain points during the stream, the chat was composed of 99% calls to lower the price, often written in all caps. Another Nintendo Treehouse stream is scheduled for today at 5 PM Moscow time, and it is likely that the phrase «DROP THE PRICE» will flood the chat once again.

In the meantime, people are urging others to vote with their wallets and refrain from purchasing the Switch 2 and its games. As one user pointed out, Nintendo only shows generosity when it’s in dire straits, recalling how the Nintendo 3DS initially sold poorly, forcing the company to significantly cut prices. Others empathized with modern kids, suggesting that it used to be difficult to convince parents to buy a game, and if prices rise to $80, refusals will be even more common.

Nintendo must be alarmed by such tactics. This opinion was shared by former Nintendo of America employees Krysta Yang, a former PR manager, and Kit Ellis, who held the position of social media marketing lead. They believe the company is well aware of gamer sentiments, as there are dedicated rooms in their offices where staff monitor public reactions.

Both experts assert that Nintendo needs to take action to regain control of the situation.

It’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for purchase starting June 5, priced at $449.99 or €469.99. A bundle including Mario Kart World will cost $499.99 or €509.99, while the game can be purchased separately for €79.99 in digital format and €89.99 in physical format.
