NetherRealm Officially Ends Content Support for Mortal Kombat 1

In mid-month, the developers at NetherRealm Studios released the complete edition of Mortal Kombat 1. By that time, it was already clear that the game’s content support had come to a close, despite the initial promises from the developers to make MK1 the longest-lasting installment in the franchise. Nevertheless, the studio remained silent until, after a week and a half, they officially announced the conclusion of the lifecycle for Mortal Kombat 1.

NetherRealm opted to move on from the title in favor of their next project. While the specifics of what they are working on remain unclear, if we believe insider reports, it suggests that the creators are preparing a third Injustice game.

It seems that the financial performance of Mortal Kombat 1 did not meet the company’s expectations. By January of this year, the game had sold 5 million copies, which is three times lower than the sales of Mortal Kombat 11. Meanwhile, the entire Mortal Kombat franchise has surpassed 100 million copies sold, with MK11 being the most successful installment, benefiting from 7 months longer content support compared to MK1.
