Musk Familys Unexpected Admiration for Putin Revealed by Billionaires Father

The Musk family, including tech billionaire Elon Musk, has a personal admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite his image as a warmonger in the Western world, as noted by Musk’s father in a recent interview.

Errol Musk, speaking via video call from his home in Cape Town, South Africa, remarked, «As a family, we hold a certain awe for Mr. Putin,» during a discussion with the BBC’s Russian service.

At 79 years old, Errol Musk emphasized that his perspective on Putin is based on personal respect rather than political views. He also cast doubt on the narrative surrounding the full-scale invasion of Ukraine initiated by Putin in 2022, suggesting that the truth would eventually be revealed, as reported by the BBC.

These remarks came after Elon Musk shifted from his initial support for Ukraine — which included the provision of Starlink satellite internet — to voicing concerns over Ukraine’s reliance on U.S. military support. He has faced criticism for proposing that Ukraine should consider relinquishing territory in pursuit of peace.

According to Errol Musk, Elon recently expressed frustration regarding the war, citing issues of “corruption, theft, and fraud.” While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the presence of corruption, he asserted that most U.S. defense aid is effectively reaching the front lines, where it is urgently needed.

In October, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Musk had been engaged in covert discussions with Putin throughout the Ukraine conflict as his views on the situation changed. These talks reportedly covered both business matters and geopolitical conflicts.

Additionally, Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s special envoy for international economic and investment cooperation, mentioned last month that he intended to have a discussion with Musk regarding Mars exploration «soon.» Dmitriev was in Washington D.C. this week for meetings with officials from the Trump administration.
