Moscows Airports Suspend Operations Amid Drone Threats

On Wednesday, three of the four airports in Moscow temporarily halted their operations due to Ukrainian drone activity aimed at the Russian capital, officials reported.

Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports stopped all flights, both incoming and outgoing, while Sheremetyevo ceased arrivals but permitted certain departures on a selective basis, as stated by Artem Korenyako, a representative of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency.

These measures were implemented following the announcement by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who indicated that air defense systems had intercepted three drones approaching the city.

“Emergency services are currently addressing the situations at the crash sites,” Sobyanin mentioned on Telegram, though he did not disclose specific locations.

The restrictions on airspace were lifted in less than an hour, according to Rosaviatsia.

Earlier that day, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 159 Ukrainian drones overnight, stating its forces also intercepted 39 additional drones over six regions of Russia and Crimea on Wednesday morning.

The military has yet to provide any comments regarding the afternoon drone strikes in Moscow.
