Moldovan Priest Loses $32,000 to Cryptocurrency Scam

A 69-year-old priest from the Moldovan city of Soroca has lost over 575,000 lei (approximately $32,033) after investing in cryptocurrency. This has been reported by the local publication PulsMedia.

Between January 13 and February 25, the victim transferred funds to a purported investment cryptocurrency platform. The fraudsters convinced the man of the deal’s profitability before disappearing with his money.

The police have launched an investigation to uncover all the details of the case.

It’s worth noting that on February 26, searches were initiated in Moldovan cities regarding a fraud case involving a cryptocurrency exchange, as reported here.

In January, law enforcement authorities charged Valeria Fedyakina, known by her alias Bitmama, in a case involving the embezzlement of cryptocurrencies and fiat totaling 2.2 billion rubles.

In December 2024, a resident of Chornomorsk was deceived in a transaction for purchasing bitcoin for 43,000 hryvnias.
