Microsoft Accidentally Reintroduces Windows Vista Startup Sound in Windows 11 Beta

Participants of the Windows Insiders program have discovered that the startup sound for Windows 11 has, by default, been replaced with a melody from 2006, as reported by Neowin.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and included it in the official list of known bugs in the latest Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds:

«This week, we have an amazing throwback — the Windows Vista boot sound is playing instead of the Windows 11 startup tone. We are working on a fix.»

Brandon LeBlanc, a member of the Windows Insider team, noted on social media that the replacement of the startup sound was not intentional. He added a touch of humor regarding the situation:

It’s a coincidence that this issue arose at the same time Apple announced macOS 26 Tahoe. Following the presentation, the internet reminisced about Windows Vista, and users pointed out that the new Liquid Glass design in macOS bears a resemblance to Aero in Vista.

Previously, the U.S. Library of Congress added 25 musical works, created between 1913 and 2015, to the National Recording Registry, including the reboot melody from Microsoft Windows 95 and the original soundtrack from the game Minecraft.
