Kremlin Dismisses Speculation of Putin-Trump Meeting During Upcoming Saudi Arabia Visit

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin does not intend to visit Saudi Arabia, where U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel in the coming weeks, and dismissed rumors about a potential meeting between the two leaders.

Since February, Trump and Putin have engaged in at least two phone conversations but have yet to meet face-to-face. Meanwhile, senior officials from both nations have conducted discussions in Saudi Arabia. On Monday, Trump indicated that he might travel to the Gulf nation as soon as next month.

“These are solely the plans of the U.S. president and are entirely unrelated to Putin,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday.

“Putin currently has no such plans,” Peskov continued, emphasizing that there is no specific date or location for a «potential meeting» between the Kremlin chief and Trump.

Since assuming office in January, Trump has aimed to foster closer ties with Russia and has expressed hopes for an in-person meeting with Putin in the near future.

However, in recent days, the U.S. president has hinted at growing frustration over Russia’s perceived reluctance to accept a U.S.-proposed ceasefire in Ukraine.

Last month, the U.S. facilitated separate discussions with Ukrainian and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, resulting in both parties agreeing to cease strikes on energy infrastructure.

Since that event, Russia and Ukraine have accused one another of breaching the agreement through deliberate assaults on energy facilities.
