Kornilenko: Belarus Will Not Suffer Another 0:4 Defeat Against Russia

Former Belarusian national team footballer Sergei Kornilenko has shared his expectations for the upcoming friendly match against Russia, scheduled for June 10.

«I’ve watched all the recent games of both the Belarus and Russia national teams — I attended the match against Nigeria and saw Belarus play Kazakhstan. I’m looking forward to an exciting match at the new stadium. I hope it will be a high-scoring game, and most importantly, that the spectators will enjoy it. I believe the Russian team will feature players who did not play in the game against Nigeria, and there will also be some rotation in the Belarus squad.

I don’t think we’ll see such a hefty scoreline as last year. I know the Belarusian players remember that well, and head coach Carlos Alos has also stated that a 4-0 result is out of the question. The Belarusian team hasn’t lost in a while, with their recent matches yielding positive results and a solid performance. The new stadium adds an extra element, and I expect a lot of fans to turn out, so it should be an interesting game,» said Kornilenko in an interview with Championat correspondent Alexander Yershov.

The match will take place at the National Football Stadium in Minsk, starting at 20:00 MSK. The last encounter between the Russian and Belarusian teams, held a year ago, ended in a decisive 4-0 victory for Russia.
