Investors Bet on Claude Code: Anthropics Valuation Poised to Surpass $100 Billion

According to The Information, investors are keen on a new funding round that could push Anthropic’s valuation beyond $100 billion. This would almost double the company’s worth, which was estimated at $58 billion in March 2025. At that time, Anthropic secured $3.5 billion and expressed intentions to raise an additional $5.5 billion over the course of the year.

Much of Anthropic’s success can be attributed to Claude Code, an AI-driven programming tool that became widely available in May. The company reports that Claude Code has already generated over $200 million in annual revenue, and the number of weekly downloads has surged sixfold since June, reaching three million. Claude Code is accessible via API and through a subscription to a chatbot service.

Anthropic’s gross profit from direct sales of its models stands at approximately 60%, with a target of 70%. This profit is calculated as revenue minus server and support costs. However, when sold through platforms like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, which account for a significant portion of revenue, profit margins dip to minus 30%. About 70% of Anthropic’s revenue comes from direct sales, which helps offset losses in the cloud business.

The growth of Anthropic is also fueled by the integration of its models into other startups. Cursor, a direct competitor to Claude Code, also utilizes Anthropic’s models. Cursor’s annual revenue surged tenfold from November 2024 to June 2025, reaching $500 million. Two developers who previously worked on Claude Code transitioned to Cursor but have since returned to Anthropic.
