Housemarque Affirms Commitment to Traditional Games Amid Live Service Trends

The Finnish studio **Housemarque** will celebrate its 30th anniversary in July. Last week, the company organized a pre-anniversary event and invited members of the press. A journalist from [Eurogamer](https://www.eurogamer.net/returnal-studio-housemarque-has-no-plans-for-a-live-service-title-as-long-as-people-are-buying-premium-games) spoke with the developers about their future plans.

Studio head **Ilari Kuittinen** and creative director **Gregory Louden** affirmed that **Housemarque** will continue to produce traditional premium games as long as there is a demand for them.

“Our philosophy is that [our games] provide an experience for a specific period in your life, and you can enjoy that experience over several days or weeks, it doesn’t really matter,” Kuittinen stated. He also likened **Housemarque’s** works to films and series, which do not require viewers to dedicate all their free time.

Gregory Louden added that the team is fully focused on producing their new project, a third-person action game titled **Saros**. The game is set to be released on PlayStation 5 in 2026. Brand director **Mikael Haveri** assured that the team will keep enhancing the gameplay, story, and technology in their projects.

Here’s the teaser trailer for Saros.

It’s worth noting that in 2021, **Housemarque** became part of **Sony’s** gaming division. The corporation has had its share of challenges with live-service games—most notably, the shooter **Concord**, which faded out just two weeks after its launch, and the upcoming action title **Fairgames**, which is rumored to be facing significant development difficulties.
