Gunman Neutralized After Shooting at Traffic Police from Murmansk Rooftop

A gunman opened fire on traffic police from the top of a 14-story building late Sunday in Murmansk, a city in northern Russia, according to officials.

Videos captured by witnesses showed gunfire ringing out in what seemed to be a residential area, with a silhouette of a man visible on the rooftop at night.

Andrei Chibis, the Governor of the Murmansk region, advised residents to take safety measures and to avoid filming during the active shooter incident.

The regional division of Russia’s Investigative Committee, responsible for investigating serious crimes, reported that there were no injuries from the shooting.

“The shooter was subdued during the assault on the roof,” the Investigative Committee stated.

Russia’s National Guard released footage showing officers strategizing their operation to take control of the rooftop.

On Monday, state media in Russia reported that the suspected gunman was in critical condition. Identified as Vladislav Zavgorodny, he worked for a state-funded rescue service for fishing vessels, according to TASS, a state-run news agency citing unnamed security sources.
