Guilmos Heir Leads New Ubisoft Venture to Revitalize Iconic Franchises مانند Assassins Creed and Far Cry

**Family Business**. For Ubisoft, this phrase signifies more than just a concept; it is the foundation of their existence. In 1986, five brothers, the Guillemots, established Ubi Soft Entertainment SA — a gaming company that would eventually become the most successful one in Europe.

Currently, the French company is facing numerous financial challenges, and this spring they reached an agreement to collaborate with China’s Tencent. Tencent will provide funding for a new subsidiary of Ubisoft that will focus on developing future titles in key franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow 6.

Recent reports have revealed the leadership for this new venture: Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot. There are no concerns regarding Derennes’ candidacy. An executive with over 35 years at Ubisoft, he previously led the Ubisoft Montreal studio and served as the managing director of Ubisoft North America. He has been instrumental in the development of numerous games, including producing Far Cry 3 and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, as well as overseeing the creation of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Watch Dogs 2.

In contrast, Charlie Guillemot lacks similar experience. His background includes serving as the creative director for the mobile game Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, which is remembered primarily for its controversy surrounding its «insensitive and harmful» use of imagery related to Black Lives Matter. Additionally, Charlie founded a startup focused on developing anime avatars using artificial intelligence and NFT technology. Those achievements encompass his professional portfolio.

Nonetheless, Ubisoft appears to be confident in its decision. Here is the company’s statement:

«Ubisoft announces the next step in the development of its new subsidiary, introduced on March 27, with the appointment of Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot as co-CEOs. Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot bring complementary experiences and will contribute industry expertise, an in-depth understanding of Ubisoft’s ecosystem, and a shared culture of innovation to the company.»
