Guardiola Comments on Alonsos Departure from Bayer

The head coach of Manchester City, **Josep Guardiola**, shared his thoughts on the news of **Xabi Alonso** leaving Bayer at the end of the current season.

“He has made an incredible impact at Bayer. I believe that all the coaches who have seen him as a player have always recognized that Xabi would eventually become a coach. Coming to Germany and competing head-to-head with Bayern is always a challenging task. Last season, Bayer was unbeaten except for the final match against Atalanta in the Europa League.

The way the team plays and how the players develop… I think Bayer Leverkusen should be very, very proud of the collaboration they’ve had with Alonso over the past two to three years,” Guardiola stated at a press conference.

Today, on May 9, Bayer announced Alonso’s departure from the club. Earlier reports suggested that the Spanish coach would take over as the new manager of Real Madrid.
