Google Unveils Ambitious New AI Mode in Search to Compete with ChatGPT and Rivals

Google has unveiled a new feature in its search engine called the «AI mode,» which will allow users to interact with artificial intelligence directly on the search results page. This is the company’s most ambitious move to date as it aims to compete with other AI developers and address significant threats to its revenue, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Investors were hoping Google would outline its strategy for tackling this challenge, but the company’s response has not particularly impressed them so far.

«This represents a complete reimagining of search with more advanced reasoning capabilities. We are entering a new phase of the AI platform shift, where decades of research are becoming a reality,» stated Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.

The company emphasized that this development is its «most powerful AI-driven search» featuring enhanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities, along with the ability to deepen inquiries through follow-up questions and helpful online links.

«In the coming weeks, you will notice a new tab for AI mode in the search and search bar of the Google app,» the announcement noted.
