Google расширяет доступ к интеграции ИИ в Chrome, превращая браузер в интеллектуального помощника Translation: Google expands access to AI integration in Chrome, turning the browser into an intelligent assistant.

Google Corporation will start the integration of Gemini into Chrome for all PC and mobile users in the USA. Previously, the AI was exclusively available to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.

Users will be able to request the chatbot to comprehend the content of a webpage, manage multiple tabs, or perform various tasks within a single tab. For instance, scheduling a meeting or searching for a video on YouTube.

“We are enhancing the browser so you can maximize what the internet offers—through methods that seemed impossible just a few years ago. And we’re doing this while keeping the speed, simplicity, and security of Chrome that many users appreciate,” said Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Platforms and Devices at the company.

Soon, the AI will be capable of locating webpages that users have previously visited. Questions like, “On which site did I see that walnut table last week?” will be permissible.

The new Gemini in Chrome has a more profound integration with Google applications like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps, allowing access to services without needing to switch between pages.

The corporation is also adding an enhanced AI Mode search function directly into the Chrome address bar. This feature will enable users to ask complex questions and delve deeper into topics by making follow-up inquiries.

The update will begin rolling out in September in English in the USA, with plans to expand to other countries subsequently.

The company has stated that soon Chrome will utilize the Gemini Nano model for detecting and protecting against fraud schemes, such as fake virus warnings and giveaways.

The browser remains the primary tool for internet access. Today, it is also becoming a competitive arena for leadership in consumer AI.

For many years, Google and Apple have dominated this sector, which is why the US Department of Justice attempted to force the American corporation to sell Chrome as part of an antitrust case. However, the court dismissed the idea.

Meanwhile, Apple plans to launch its own web search based on neural networks, which will be integrated into the voice assistant Siri.

AI competitors are offering their solutions. In January, the startup OpenAI introduced an agent named “Operator,” capable of performing tasks on the internet on behalf of users.

In August, Anthropic presented a Chrome extension for the AI agent Claude, and the month before, Perplexity launched its own AI-based web browser, Comet.

Google announced new agent capabilities for Gemini in Chrome. Agentic AI allows for the creation of customized services capable of executing specific tasks.

In the coming months, users will be able to delegate tasks such as scheduling haircuts or ordering groceries for the week. Previously, such functionalities were available through the internal Project Mariner initiative.

PayPal announced a strategic partnership with Google to develop new commerce solutions based on the corporation’s AI technologies. Meanwhile, the payment company’s tools will be integrated into the American corporation’s products, alongside planned collaboration with its cloud division for hosting and improving technological infrastructure.

The companies did not specify the exact agent-based commerce capabilities they plan to develop. However, it is known that Google will provide its AI and expertise, while PayPal will leverage its global payment infrastructure, personalization, and identification solutions.

Additionally, both firms will join other participants to promote the Agent Payments Protocol.

As part of the agreement, PayPal will become a key payment provider for services like Google Cloud, Google Ads, and Google Play.

Google announced that users will be able to share their Gems—personalized AI assistants and experts designed for specific tasks.

These Gems emerged in 2024 within the paid subscription Gemini Advanced. Through this feature, users can provide instructions and receive a chatbot tailored to particular scenarios.

The company has offered ready-made AI assistants: a study mentor, brainstorming partner, career consultant, text editor, and coding collaborator.

Now, the corporation has enabled sharing of settings with friends, family, or colleagues. This will help avoid situations where different users create the same assistants. The new function will also be useful for collaborative efforts on family vacation plans, menu planning, or collective projects.

It’s worth noting that in August, Google launched AI Mode in 180 countries.
