Google запускает Gemini в Chrome: Искусственный интеллект становится доступным для всех пользователей Translation: Google Launches Gemini in Chrome: Artificial Intelligence Becomes Available to All Users

Google Corporation will begin to integrate Gemini into Chrome for all PC and mobile users in the United States. Previously, this AI was accessible only to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.

Users will have the ability to ask the chatbot to analyze the content of a web page, manage multiple tabs, or perform various actions within a single tab. For instance, they could schedule a meeting or search for a YouTube video.

“We are enhancing the browser to help you maximize your experience on the internet in ways that seemed impossible just a few years ago. We are doing this while maintaining the speed, simplicity, and security of Chrome, which many people appreciate,” said Rick Osterloh, senior vice president for platforms and devices at the company.

Soon, the AI will be able to locate web pages that the user visited previously. Users could ask questions like: “On which site did I see that walnut table last week?”

The new Gemini in Chrome boasts deeper integration with Google applications such as Calendar, YouTube, and Maps, allowing access to services without leaving the current page.

The corporation is also introducing an advanced AI Mode search function directly in the Chrome address bar, enabling users to pose complex inquiries and delve into subjects with follow-up questions.

This update will start rolling out in September in English within the U.S., with plans to expand to other countries later on.

The company stated that soon Chrome will be able to use the Gemini Nano model for detecting and protecting against fraudulent schemes, such as fake virus warnings and scams.

The browser remains the primary tool for accessing the internet and is increasingly becoming a battleground for competition in the consumer AI sector.

Google and Apple have long dominated this space, which is why the U.S. Justice Department attempted to compel the American corporation to sell Chrome as part of an antitrust case. However, the court dismissed the idea.

Meanwhile, Apple plans to launch its own web search powered by neural networks, which will be integrated into the Siri voice assistant.

AI competitors are offering their solutions. In January, the startup OpenAI introduced an agent named «Operator,» capable of performing online tasks on behalf of users.

In August, Anthropic presented a Chrome extension for the AI agent Claude, while a month earlier, Perplexity launched its own AI-based web browser called Comet.

Google announced new agent capabilities for Gemini in Chrome. The Agentic AI feature allows for the creation of customized services that can carry out specific tasks.

In the coming months, users will be able to delegate tasks to the service, such as scheduling haircuts or ordering groceries for the week. Previously, such functions were accessible within the internal Project Mariner.

PayPal announced a strategic partnership with Google to develop new commerce solutions leveraging the corporation’s AI technologies. In turn, the payment company’s tools will be integrated into the American corporation’s products. Collaboration with its cloud division is also planned for hosting and enhancing the technological infrastructure.

The companies did not specify the exact agent-based commerce capabilities they intend to develop. It is known that Google will provide its artificial intelligence and expertise, while PayPal will utilize its global payment infrastructure, personalization, and identification solutions.

Additionally, both firms will join other participants to promote Agent Payments Protocol.

As part of the deal, PayPal will become a key payment provider for services like Google Cloud, Google Ads, and Google Play.

Google also announced that users will be able to share their Gems—personalized AI assistants designed for specific tasks.

These assistants debuted in 2024 through a paid subscription to Gemini Advanced. With this feature, users can give instructions and receive a chatbot tailored for specific scenarios.

The company has offered ready-made AI assistants: a study mentor, a brainstorming partner, a career consultant, a text editor, and a programming companion.

Now, the corporation has enabled the sharing of settings with friends, family, or colleagues. This will prevent situations where different users create identical assistants. The new feature will also be useful for collaborative planning of family vacations, meal menus, or group projects.

Let’s recall that in August, Google launched AI Mode in 180 countries.
