Following in His Fathers Footsteps: Aatos Koivus Journey to Become a Standout Player

Aatos Koivuu, a 19-year-old forward from Finland and the son of a world champion and four-time Olympic medalist, shared his aspiration to follow in his father’s footsteps and step onto the ice wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey.

«It would mean the world to me. I can’t even find the right words. I hope that one day I will be able to savor every minute on the ice in Montreal’s colors, that’s for sure.

I handle pressure quite well. I’d say I’m strong in the center position, and I’m not overly concerned that many see me simply as Saku’s son. My goal is to make a name for myself and prove to everyone that I can also be a skilled player. This drives me to elevate my game even further, and that’s what I truly want,» Koivuu said, as quoted by the NHL.

This summer, Aatos participated in the Montreal Canadiens training camp for the first time after being selected by the team in the third round (70th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. Last season, he recorded 8 points (1 goal and 7 assists) in 32 games for TPS in the Finnish league, although his season was cut short due to mononucleosis.
