Exploring the Forest Alliance in Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era

The team at Unfrozen has released another video featuring gameplay snippets from Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. This time, the spotlight is on the Forest Alliance, also known as Sylvan. However, it’s important to note that this is just a teaser for the faction, not a full trailer—more details can be found in the development diary.

The Forest Alliance is a coalition of nature-protecting fairies and elementals, who defend their homeland from external threats, aided by various heroes, including elves. Among the creatures in this faction are satyrs, phoenixes, horned kirins, and other units.

As the developers explained, in Olden Era, they aim to bring the Sylvan faction back to the themes of the city of witches from the second installment. To recall, this city blended forest and elemental motifs, while in the third game, they were divided into the nature-aligned Stronghold and the elemental Castle of Conjunction.

From the developers’ diary:

The faction skill of the Grove is “Whisper,” which is initially possessed only by the guardian warriors and druid mages. At the start of each battle, the whisper generates up to three concentration charges depending on the level. These charges are required by creatures and heroes to utilize their abilities. Additionally, concentration is generated during attacks, when taking damage, through certain spells, and at the beginning of each new round.

Sylvan, like other castles, has its own faction laws. This new mechanic can be likened to a technology tree.

From the developers’ diary:

In terms of magic, the heroes of the Forest Alliance have an increased chance of learning primal spells, and some generals specialize in this school of magic. The roster of available heroes includes elves, bird-people, and cat-like beings, along with familiar faces such as the ifrit Octavia.

Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era will enter early access on Steam in the summer of 2025. Previously, the studio provided closer looks at three out of six factions: the Hive, Dungeon, and Necropolis.
