The second-largest cryptocurrency network by market capitalization has reached a new all-time high in transaction volume, while user fees have dropped to record lows.

The seven-day average of transactions has soared to nearly 2.5 million, doubling the figures from last year. This significant increase in on-chain activity began in mid-December following an extended decline.

The demand for the blockchain is also being fueled by stablecoins. Standard Chartered Bank noted that they account for up to 40% of all transactions. Jeffrey Kendrick, head of the digital asset research department, has already dubbed 2026 as the «year of Ethereum.»

At the same time, interest in passive income is growing: 36 million ETH is currently staked, representing 30% of the market supply. The queue for validator launches has surpassed 2.5 million coins, the highest since August 2023.

It’s worth mentioning that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has stated that in 2026, the community will focus on enhancing privacy and user autonomy. He indicated that the project will no longer compromise for the sake of mass adoption.
