Enthusiast Upgrades Asus ROG Ally with High-Capacity Battery from ROG Strix G15

The creator of the YouTube channel Miner TechTips has showcased a method for enhancing the battery life of the portable gaming console Asus ROG Ally. He successfully swapped the device’s standard battery for a higher-capacity one from the ROG Strix G15 laptop.

The enthusiast worked with the original Asus ROG Ally model, which comes with a standard battery rated at 40 Wh. He replaced it with a 90 Wh battery from the ROG Strix G15. This modification necessitated some structural changes, including the design and 3D printing of a new back cover for the console and adjustments to the SSD mount.

According to Miner TechTips, after the upgrade, the battery life during resource-intensive gaming improved significantly, extending from 1-1.5 hours to 3-4 hours. However, this enhancement also increased the weight of the device from 670 grams to 813 grams.

The blogger emphasized that his experiment highlights the potential of portable gaming systems and the impressive battery life improvements that could be achieved with higher-capacity batteries from manufacturers.

In March, Jsaux introduced a battery replacement kit for the Asus ROG Ally aimed at enhancing the device’s battery performance. This kit offers a 65 Wh battery, which is 50% larger than the original one. The price of the kit is set at $80.
