Emotional Triumph: Lidia Ivanova Reflects on Ovechkins Historic NHL Goal Record

Two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics, coach, and commentator Lidia Ivanova shared her thoughts on the record set by forward Alexander Ovechkin for goals scored in the NHL.

“Look at the American fans celebrating at the Capitals’ games. There’s so much genuine joy and sincerity in their reactions, and you can’t script that. It gave me chills. If I happen to meet Tanya (Ovechkin’s mother — Ed. «Championship»), I’d probably hug and kiss her in appreciation for her son. Sasha has brought such pride to our country and reached incredible heights that words simply can’t express. Observe, learn, aim high, create, and maybe, with this example in front of you, you too will achieve something significant in life,” Ivanova’s words are quoted by RT.

Alexander Ovechkin scored his record-setting 895th goal during a game against the New York Islanders, surpassing the previous mark held by Canadian forward Wayne Gretzky.
