Disappearing Act: Russias Appointment of New Ambassador to Poland Sparks Confusion

A presidential decree announcing a new Russian ambassador to Poland briefly surfaced on the official Russian government website on Friday, only to disappear without any explanation just a few hours later.

Initial reports from the state-run news agency TASS indicated that Georgy Mikhno, a senior official at the Foreign Ministry tasked with addressing “new challenges and threats,” would succeed long-serving ambassador Sergei Andreev in Warsaw.

However, this information was later withdrawn, with TASS stating that “the relevant decrees were revoked” from the official government page.

The now-removed decree indicated that Mikhno, aged 52, would replace Andreev, who has been an ambassador since 2014 and was said to be preparing to resign, according to recent speculations in pro-Kremlin media.

Neither the Kremlin nor the Foreign Ministry has provided any comments regarding this apparent reversal. The reasons behind the initial announcement and its abrupt withdrawal remain uncertain.
