CZ: Call for Functional AI Tokens as 99.99% Are Deemed Useless

At the Token2049 conference, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao urged the crypto industry to develop AI agents that feature tokens demonstrating «real applicability,» labeling most existing examples as «useless.» This was reported by The Block.

«I want to see genuine AI agents that offer real utility and can truly assist you, accompanied by their own tokens. There are platforms for AI tokens where you just click a button and get an AI with your own name. That token is worthless; 99.99% of them are useless,» CZ stated.

He emphasized that artificial intelligence will fundamentally transform the user experience within the crypto sector, altering how people interact with blockchain technology. He suggested that cryptocurrency could serve as the monetary system for AI:

«AI won’t swipe a card or receive an SMS code; that’s not how AI operates. It will rely on cryptocurrency.»

Zhao also pointed out that the readily available online data for training AI is already depleted, and that blockchain technology could facilitate the gathering of new information while maintaining user privacy and offering monetization opportunities.

Earlier, CZ had already stressed the importance of focusing on the practical benefits of AI projects instead of creating tokens that aren’t useful for many initiatives.

«While cryptocurrency serves as currency for AI, not every agent requires its own token. They can charge for services using existing cryptocurrencies. Launch a coin only if you have scale. Concentrate on utility, not tokens,» Zhao urged.

It’s worth noting that experts from Sygnum believe that tokens associated with AI agents could become a significant trend in 2025, although they primarily remain speculative assets.
