CZ Backs Vitalik Buterins $10M Biotech Initiative for Open Source Health Innovations

Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) recently donated $10 million in BNB to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin to support «open-source biotechnological efforts.»

Buterin has been an outspoken advocate for vaccine development, longevity research, anti-aging initiatives, and biotech projects focused on universal virus detection.

CZ did not specify the names of the projects associated with his donation. This contribution was in addition to investments made through his family office, YZi Labs.

«I appreciate your support in the mission to protect human health and safety from airborne diseases,» commented the Ethereum co-founder.

The former Binance CEO announced his investment following an extensive post by Jane He, the general partner at the fund, where she elaborated on CZ’s philosophy.

«Since Zhao and I began collaborating on our family office’s investments in biotechnology and healthcare, I’ve come to realize how deep his conviction runs. For him, this isn’t just about chasing the next big thing; it’s a challenge to a system that too often prioritizes profit over people. He’s witnessed a handful of giants shape the entire industry, dictating not only the pace of innovation but also who has access to medical care and who gets overlooked. For him, investing in biotechnology is an act of defiance—a way to open doors for dreamers, outsiders, and those with ideas that could change everything if only given a chance,» she wrote.

Additionally, CZ has made several other private donations to charitable initiatives.

It’s worth noting that in January, the venture firm YZi Labs led a $16 million investment round for the infrastructure project Sign.
