Corning Unveils Gorilla Glass Ceramic: The Next Generation of Durable Screen Protection

Corning has introduced Gorilla Glass Ceramic, a glass-ceramic material designed to enhance the durability of a wider range of mobile devices. This innovative product significantly improves drop resistance on rough surfaces compared to traditional aluminosilicate solutions.

The new glass expands Corning’s portfolio of resilient protective materials for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Gorilla Glass has established a strong reputation for being tough and resilient, and Gorilla Glass Ceramic continues this legacy, as noted by the Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass. He emphasized that this new material highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and the development of high-quality, durable materials for device covers and screens.

In lab tests, Gorilla Glass Ceramic successfully withstood ten repeated drops from a height of one meter onto surfaces that mimic asphalt. In contrast, aluminosilicate glass typically shatters upon the first drop.

This new material is set to hit the market alongside an upcoming Motorola device in the next few months. Last year, the American company announced plans to equip all its new smartphones with Gorilla Glass.
